She began her political journey at Calvin College. Betsy is married to a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and activist, Duck Devos. She has four children and five grandchildren.
Betsy Devos seeks for innovative solutions to most social problems. Together with her husband, she founded the Windquest Group, a company that invests in clean energy, manufacturing as well as investing.
Betsy is an active philanthropist, and she pursues reforms through donations. She is the chairperson of Dick and Betsy Devos Family Foundation. In addition, she is a member of multiple national and local boards such as the Kids Hope USA, Foundation for Excellence in Education, Mars Hill Bible Church, and etcetera.
Betsy is among the leading advocates for the educational choice movement. The movement has been growing at a rapid rate and is very popular, especially among the Latinos. Betsy joined the movement from the time it was considered radical. According to her, she was moved by the parents who sacrificed a lot to ensure that they send their kids to safe learning environments. Together with her husband, they started supporting some children from the Potter’s House Christian School. Their passion for helping parents from low-income families educate their children intensified, and it led to the establishment of a foundation that gave scholarships to low-income families so that they could send their kids to good schools.

However, Betsy realized that the foundation was not very effective as it would not impact on many students. This compelled her to intensify her involvement in the Educational Choice Movement. Betsy is always trying to get a lasting solution to ensure most students get better education options. According to Betsy, her greatest achievement was Florida. The state has a widespread educational choice that has an ever-growing number of beneficiaries, currently over 50,000.
The Devos Foundation gave out donations worth $11.6 million in 2015. The couple’s lifetime giving is $139 million. According to Forbes, the Devos family was position 24 on the 2014 list of America’s top givers. The donations given to Christian schools from 1999 to 2014 are $8.6 million. Charter schools and public schools received $5.2 million and $59,750 respectively. The Grand Rapids Christian high school received @2.39 million. The Ada Christian School received $652,000 while the Holland Christian School Received $485,000.
Betsy advocates for student’s freedom and is looking forward to the growth of digital learning. For over three decades, Betsy has led several campaigns, political action committees, and party organizations. Currently, her political efforts are based on advancing educational choices.
